Reporting to the Station Manager, the Field Engineer provides technical engineering support to construction management personnel to ensure construction work complies with all engineering standards, codes, specifications, and drawings. They are responsible for planning, liaising with designers, sub-contractors, quantity tracking, and reporting. They will also provide construction discipline support to other departments such as Quality, Safety, and Environmental, daily construction reporting, and assist Superintendents with site management.

Responsibilities
- Preparation of construction work plans and look-ahead schedules.
- Daily responsibility to ensure safety, quality, and environmental standards are being followed and maintained through each phase of construction.
- Communicate with field supervision and have strong field presence to become included in all site activity.
- Establish a thorough knowledge of plans and specifications, work schedules, production targets and procedures pertaining to changes, extra work, and claims and costing.
- Assist Superintendents in the interpretation of plans and specifications.
- Field contract administration of subcontracts including confirmation of payment quantities.
- Completion of quantity take-offs and purchase requisitions.
- Maintain a daily diary covering all phases of the project pertaining to progress, delays, lost time, daily field changes, conditions or situations encountered which may affect the performance of present or future work.
- Conducting time studies of production by crews and equipment.
- Responsible for coordinating field surveys and layouts.
- Such other specific duties and responsibilities relating to the project as assigned by his/her supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Must possess effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to coordinate the efforts of others to accomplish objectives.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision making abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work productively with minimal supervision.
- Working knowledge of CAD, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
Required Skills And Competencies
- P. Eng. in BC in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering;
- 4 to 6 years’ experience in heavy construction projects, preferably civil construction;
- Experience with earthworks construction, previous tunneling experience an asset;
- Valid class 5 Driver’s License;
