About the Role:
Based in the geographic heart of the Sunshine Coast, our organisation is deeply committed to our community and those who visit our region. We prioritize building trust, fostering continuous improvement, and working collaboratively toward shared goals.
As the Project Director, you will lead the strategic development and execution of the development strategy, asset management, planning, environmental initiatives, and lead major projects. You will ensure these functions meet service expectations, budgetary requirements, and timelines in alignment with our Master Plan.
Your leadership will drive sustainable development and planning solutions, guiding land use plans that support industrial and commercial growth. You will also oversee the implementation and maintenance of Master Plans and long-term asset management strategies while ensuring compliance with all legal and policy standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning and Management:
- Develop and manage strategic plans for asset management, planning, environmental initiatives, and major projects.
- Oversee current and future developments within a diverse property portfolio.
- Lead the preparation of master plans for infrastructure, aligning them with regional and state planning objectives.
- Develop innovative development options and structures to capitalize on new opportunities.
Leadership and Team Management:
- Provide leadership to an established department, focusing on people management, succession planning, and team engagement.
- Inspire and guide the projects, planning, and property teams, fostering effective collaboration across departments.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive workplace that prioritizes mental health and wellbeing.
Operational Excellence:
- Manage operational performance metrics, oversee capital work programs, and ensure the successful completion of major projects.
- Oversee land tenure acquisition and disposal processes to secure appropriate tenure.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, legal, and statutory requirements.
- Implement and maintain long-term asset management plans.
Land Use Planning:
- Develop and implement land use plans for precinct/campus, industrial, and commercial growth.
- Oversee the land use and infrastructure development approval process in line with statutory requirements.
Policy and Compliance:
- Revise and implement strategic plans, policies, and procedures to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
- Lead the development and ongoing improvement of an organization-wide performance measurement framework.
Partnerships and Advocacy:
- Foster impactful partnerships and represent the organisation in various forums, providing expert advice on key decisions.
- Engage effectively with government entities and other stakeholders to promote trade and economic development.
Public Speaking and Representation:
- Represent the organisation publicly and advocate for its interests.
- Engage with state and national policy agencies and industry associations to promote development and implement best practices.
Geographical Information and Mapping Systems:
- Oversee the operation and enhancement of geographical information and mapping systems.
- Promote technological solutions that integrate planning across the business.
Technical Skills & Experience Required:
Background: Strong background in project development, infrastructure development, and construction. Experience in built infrastructure environments, such as rail, councils, universities, ports, airports, or major developers, is highly valued.
Education: Degree or diploma in Engineering, Planning, or Management, with experience in engineering, operations, project management, or land use planning. Qualifications for membership in professional organizations like Engineers Australia or the Planning Institute of Australia are desirable.
Knowledge: Deep understanding of technical services, with a focus on legislative, regulatory, and budgetary obligations.
Experience: Demonstrated experience in engineering or planning environments, including operational roles. Experience with local and/or state government operations is a significant advantage.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Proven ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and influence key audiences.
Strategic Development: Experience in developing or contributing to long-term corporate strategies, policies, and annual reports.
Leadership: Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate an experienced team.
Problem-Solving: Expertise in addressing complex challenges and seeking guidance when necessary.
Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively across various platforms and levels.
