We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is open for work at any of our offices:
- Brisbane
- Toowoomba
- Sunshine Coast
- Rockhampton
- Bundaberg
Purpose of Position: The Senior Engineer will provide expert advice on the design, planning, and management of civil construction projects. In this role, you will lead and manage projects, mentor junior engineers, and support the design manager across various technical and project management areas.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership:
- Uphold and communicate HIG's vision, values, and behaviors.
- Collaborate with the executive engineer/design manager to achieve desired performance standards.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and communicate potential risks to the business.
Project Management:
- Lead the engineering team in designing, documenting, and detailing construction projects.
- Ensure adherence to PMBOK principles.
- Procure and manage subcontractors/consultants.
- Act as the superintendent’s representative on projects.
- Regularly liaise with clients and project managers.
- Travel to project sites to monitor progress and ensure engineering specifications are met.
Project Cost Management:
- Monitor and track project costs, ensuring alignment with project parameters.
- Manage project budgets and report inconsistencies to the Technical Services Manager.
- Accurately forecast and document project expenditures.
Contract Administration:
- Administer projects in line with contractual requirements.
- Approve invoicing and progress payments.
- Report risks to the design manager.
Business Development:
- Seek out business opportunities through networking and industry involvement.
- Inform management of potential opportunities.
Tenders and Submissions:
- Write and contribute to tenders and submissions in collaboration with the design manager.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Civil Engineer.
- Certification as an RPEQ or working towards it.
- TMR B13 Prequalification is desirable.
Skills and Attributes:
- Expertise in AustRoads and DIT design guidelines; WSUD knowledge is a plus.
- Proficiency in civil modeling packages (Civil3D / 12d).
- Strong ability to liaise with clients, authorities, and stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Superior project management skills to monitor progress and manage client expectations.
