The Position
Collaborating with the Interior Design Director & Interior Stylist, the Interior Designer will be involved in the design and delivery of all GURNER™ projects and will play a pivotal role in the entire lifecycle of design projects, from initial concept to final delivery. You will be responsible for preparing spatial plans, test fits, and schematic designs, translating ideas into detailed 3D models using SketchUp or 3DSMAX, and 2D drawings in AutoCAD. Your role will include the preparation of concept design presentations, along with FF&E schedules, to communicate design ideas effectively to clients and stakeholders.
In addition to creative tasks, you will be deeply involved in the practical aspects of the design process, including sourcing and procurement of materials, and providing onsite coordination during the fit-out phase to ensure smooth project execution. You will review documentation packages, ensuring they meet design briefs, regulatory requirements, and project goals. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will liaise with internal project teams, including construction and development teams, as well as external consultants, architects, and engineers.
Quality assurance is a critical component of your responsibilities, as you will ensure that all documentation and design elements comply with current regulations and project scope. You will also manage and coordinate styling elements for photoshoots and events, ensuring the final presentation aligns with the overall design vision. Your ability to monitor and mitigate project risks, along with maintaining a thorough awareness of all relevant design and production factors, will be essential to the successful delivery of each project.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare spatial planning, test fit and schematic design schemes.
- Developing the design in 3D SketchUp, 3DSMAX or similar and 2D AutoCAD
- Prepare concept design and development presentations
- Prepare FF&E schedules as required
- Assist in the practical sourcing and procurement phase of ID projects including onsite co-ordination, assistance during fit out and delivery of projects
- Review of reports and documentation packages including 25%,50% DD, IFA & IFC material & tender documentation, drawings, schedules and specifications (provided by External consultants where relevant)
- Liaise with internal project teams including construction managers, project managers and development teams
- Liaise with external interior design, architects, engineers and specialist sub consultants.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants and suppliers as required.
- Document checking for alignment against GURNER™ Design Brief and Pillars
- Monitor and mitigate project risks and escalate where necessary.
- Maintain an awareness of all matters relevant to the design and production of the deliverables for the project.
- Quality Assurance to ensure external consultant documentation complies with current regulations and satisfies scope requirements
- The onsite management and coordination of styling elements for photoshoots and events as required.
The Successful Candidate
To be successful in this role, we require you to hold the following characteristics and qualifications:
- Proven success as an Interior Designer within the property development space
- Relevant tertiary education within Interior Design, or other relevant discipline, will be looked upon favourably.
- Proficiency within design software, including advanced skills in 3D modelling (SketchUp, 3DSMAX, or similar) and 2D drafting tools (AutoCAD).
- Strong spatial planning skills with the ability to create and evaluate layouts that maximize functionality and aesthetic appeal.
- Experience in developing and presenting concept designs, including creating development presentations.
- Knowledge of FF&E with expertise in selecting and scheduling furniture, fixtures, and equipment, and a strong understanding of materials and finishes.
- Experience in managing design projects from concept to completion, including sourcing, procurement, and onsite coordination during fit outs.
- Competence in reviewing design documentation packages, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
- Strong interpersonal skills for coordinating with clients, consultants, and suppliers, ensuring smooth communication and project progression.
