In this role, reporting to the Manager Buildings, Property & Capital, you will lead a team of property specialists responsible for overseeing leasing, statutory property services, and strategic property management. You will drive major redevelopment projects for Council-owned sites, which includes conducting feasibility assessments, engaging stakeholders, and ensuring successful project delivery. Additionally, you will develop and implement the Council's property strategy to optimise the utilisation of Darebin's 200+ building portfolio, manage complex commercial negotiations, and oversee expressions of interest processes for vacant Council properties. Your expertise will provide strategic property advice to Council executives and elected representatives, balancing commercial considerations with community needs while navigating complex stakeholder environments. Strong strategic thinking and negotiation skills will be essential for maximising community benefits from property assets and ensuring sound financial management. You will drive an environment of high performance and collaboration to deliver exceptional outcomes for residents. You will champion best practice customer service, actively listening to the needs of the customer to ensure that the property portfolio enhances the livability of the municipality for its residents.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in property, with particular emphasis on early-stage feasibility studies and project planning. You'll bring robust commercial acumen and exceptional negotiation skills to the role, essential for managing complex property transactions and development projects. Your proven ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments and build productive relationships will be crucial in this position, as you'll be working with various internal departments, community groups, and external partners. The preferred candidate will have a creative vision and will be able to unlock the potential of Council's property assets, thinking innovatively about how these can best serve the community. While not essential, an understanding of local government processes and community engagement would be highly advantageous, allowing you to hit the ground running in this unique environment that balances commercial objectives with community needs.
