Queen’s Wharf Brisbane has transformed the CBD and river’s edge with an iconic design that embraces Brisbane’s inviting subtropical climate and celebrates the precinct’s Indigenous and European heritage with interpretive trails and experiences spanning the Brisbane River and ridgeline.
FEC Construction QLD has commenced the final stage of the Queen's Wharf Project, Towers 5 & 6. Tower 5, when complete will be one of the largest skyscrapers in Brisbane and the tallest of the Queen's Wharf project.
Role Description
We are seeking a Design Coordinator / Design Manager to join our QLD Design Team. Reporting to the Senior Design Manager, you will be responsible for the design management and coordination of the various elements of the project, from the design development phases through to construction, by working closely with our construction team, commercial team and external design consultants.
You will be part of the construction delivery team overseeing the development and delivery of the design and construction documentation for the project, and to ensure efficient buildability, and cost-effective measures are implemented into the design.
Some tasks associated with this role includes;
- Managing the design stages from pre-construction to construction with design consultants and D&C contactors, to ensure the timely delivery of documentation to be issued for procurement/ tendering and construction purposes.
- Programming of the design stages for the relevant design disciplines to capture program milestones, critical path items, and authority approvals.
- Review and coordinate the design drawings, specifications, and documentation prepared by external consultants and sub-contractors.
- Ensuring the design is undertaken in line with the project budget, the project design brief/principal’s project requirements.
- Contributing to cost planning and value engineering exercises to better cost, time and constructability.
- Involvement with obtaining the required state and local authority approvals, development compliance assessments, and building approvals required for the project.
- Answering RFI’s from consultants and sub-contractors and being a resource to the construction team with day-to-day construction works.
- Observing construction and site work, to ensure the delivery is per the documentation requirements, and assisting the construction team on design related matters.
Key Skills
- Strong knowledge of the design and construction phases to coordinate the design process of the project.
- Detailed and technical design knowledge to identify gaps and omissions in documentation.
- Understanding of legislative authority processes with development conditions and the associated approvals required prior to construction works and prior to practical completion.
- Self-motivated, organized, proactive, and to work independently.
- Ability to manage and work with external consultants.
- Strong time management skillset, working within a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Architecture, Building Design or Construction.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the design and or construction field, predominantly from an Architectural or Construction/Builder background.
- Experience in high-rise construction, Mixed-use residential/ hotel/ commercial/ retail developments.
Systems
- MS Office programs
- Bluebeam
- Procore (Document Control Portal) knowledge an advantage
